Young opera singers are welcome to take part in the special Educational program of the MagnoliArts Festival in Sochi.

 
Vocalists aged from 18 to 26 years who are studying in professional music educational institutions in the class of «Academic Vocal», «Solo Singing» or «The Art of Opera Singing» are invited to participate in the Program.
The singers’ selection is held in two stages:
  • Correspondence (by video recordings) — from 25.06 to 12.07.2021;
  • Face-to-face auditions — 09.08.2021 in St Petersburg
Those singers who successfully pass the selection will participate in master-class of the Honored Artist of Russia Agunda Kulaeva, in concert on the stage of the A.F. Debolskaya Hall of Organ and Chamber Music on 21.08.2021 and the final «Opera-Gala» in the Festival Concert Hall in Sochi on 22.08.2021.

Regulations on special Educational program for young opera singers under aegis of the First «MagnoliArts» Festival in Sochi


1. General Provisions

1.1 This Regulation stipulates the procedure and conditions for the young opera singers’ participation in special Educational program (hereinafter referred to as the Program) under aegis of the First «MagnoliArts» Festival in Sochi (hereinafter referred to as the Festival).
1.2 F.E.S. Foundation for the Support of Classical Music Art (hereinafter — the Foundation) is the organizer of the Festival.

1.3 Preparatory period of the Program: 25.06-09.08.2021.
1.4 The winners who have passed the selection take part in the concert on the stage of the A.F. Debolskaya Hall of Organ and Chamber Music on 21.08.2021 and the final «Opera-Gala» in the Festival Concert Hall in Sochi on 22.08.2021.

1.5 Period and location of the Festival: 19.08-22.08.2021, Sochi, the A.F. Debolskaya Organ and Chamber Music Hall and the Festival Concert Hall. The artistic director of the Festival is the chief conductor of the Sochi Symphony Orchestra, Alexey Aslanov.

1.6 The Organizing Committee of the Festival (hereinafter referred to as the Organizing Committee) conducts preparatory work, solves organizational and technical tasks, and also monitors compliance with the terms of this Regulation.
1.7 The Chairman of the Organizing Committee is the President of F.E.S. Foundation, Igor Anatolyevich Smolin.


2. Program participation terms

2.1 Vocalists (citizens of the Russian Federation and the CIS, as well as foreign citizens) aged from 18 to 26 years inclusive at the time of the opening and closing of the Program (25.06–09.08.2021) who are studying in professional music educational institutions in the class «Academic Vocal», «Solo Singing» or «The Art of Opera Singing» are allowed to participate in the Program.

2.2 The singers’ selection is held in 2 stages:
— Correspondence (by video recordings) — from 25.06 to 12.07.2021;
— Face-to-face auditions — 09.08.2021 in St. Petersburg.
2.3 The participants of the Program pay for their own travel and all expenses for their stay in St. Petersburg.
2.4 The Organizing Committee pays for the travel, as well as all the expenses of the winners’ stay in Sochi.
2.5 The Organizing Committee may provide the participant with a qualified coach on the basis of an advance application sent to e-mail info@fesfoundation.eu. In the case of a performance with his own coach, all expenses for his travel, invitation and stay in St. Petersburg and Sochi are borne by the contestant.

 

2.6 The Organizing Committee assists participants and accompanying persons in hotel reservation.
2.7 The participants and laureates of the Program are not paid any material prizes.

3. The Program timetable

• 25.06-12.07.2021 – receiving video recordings and applications to info@fesfoundation.eu.
• 12.07-02.08.2021 — selection of participants of the second (full-time) stage based on video recordings.
• 09.08.2021 — the second (full-time) stage in St. Petersburg, determining the winners.
• 20.08.2021- participation of laureates in master-classes in Sochi.
• 21.08.2021 — concert of the laureates on the stage of the A.F. Debolskaya Hall of Organ and Chamber Music in Sochi.
• 22.08.2021 — participation of the laureates in the «Opera-Gala» concert, which ends the Festival, in the «Festival» Concert Hall in Sochi.


3. Application rules

3.1 Applications for participation in the Program are accepted from 25.06 to 12.07.2021 (until 18.00 Moscow time inclusive).
3.2 Application requirements:
— The application must be filled in in Russian or English.
— Incorrectly or partially completed applications are not accepted for consideration.
— All documents are sent in one letter to the address: info@fesfoundation.eu with the name of the participant in the subject line.

3.3 Package of application documents:
— Program of the performance (exclusively in Word format);
— One photo («close-up») of the participant in electronic form (resolution of minimum 5 MB);

— A scanned copy of the first page of the participant’s passport;
— A short creative biography of the participant (no more than 500 characters, in Word format);
— Video recording of the performance of at least three different works in AVI or WMV format, made no earlier than 6 months before the application date, and provided as links to free cloud hosting services (for example, disk.yandex.ru, cloud.mail.ru, drive.google.com


— Consent to the processing of personal data (Appendix No. 1).
3.4 Requirements for video recordings:
— The video must be shot from one take, one plan, without editing, editing sound or video.

— The total time limit should not exceed 20 minutes.
— Video recordings accompanied by piano or orchestra are allowed in the works for piano or orchestra, video shot at home without the participation of the coach or by pre-recorded accompaniment (soundtrack «minus») are also acceptable.

 

3.5 If you wish to use the services of a skilled coach please e-mail to the Organizing Committee the scanned copies of scores of the pieces you intend to perform in the second stage of the Contest.

3.6 Each participant is responsible for the accuracy of the information provided to the Organizing Committee.
3.7 Participants should keep copies of all materials sent with the application.

3.8 The Organizing Committee sends an official confirmation of participation in the Program by e-mail to each applicant within 15 days of receiving the full package of documents. Applications that do not meet the terms of this Regulation, are partially incomplete, do not contain the necessary documents, as well as applications without video recordings/photographic materials are not accepted for consideration.


3.9 Applications received after 18.00 Moscow time on 12.07.2021 are not considered.


4. The order and rules of face-to-face performance. Concert clothing

4.1 The order of performances is determined by drawing lots during registration at the full-time stage in St. Petersburg and is maintained throughout the Program.

4.2 Performance under the phonogram is not allowed.
4.3 The dress code for performing at the second stage and in the final concerts is mandatory: for men – a tailcoat or dark suit, concert shoes, for women – a long concert dress, shoes.

 

5. The Program Jury

The Program Jury consists of leading Russian teachers, musicologists and artists.
5.1 The decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to revision.
5.2 The assessment is made on a 10-point scale by closed voting.
5.3 The results of the face-to-face audition and the winners are announced on the day of its completion in St. Petersburg.

6. Special conditions

6.1 The Program participant guarantees that he / she fully owns the intellectual property rights to all the materials provided for participation in the Program. In the event of complaints, claims and/or claims from third parties or regulatory authorities to the Organizing Committee, the participant undertakes to settle them at his own expense, as well as to compensate for all losses related to such complaints, claims, claims.


6.2 The Organizing Committee is not responsible for copyright infringement, as well as for possible violation of the rights of third parties in connection with the placement of materials on the Internet resources of the Program. By uploading a video of their performance, the participant brings the video to the public. The Participant guarantees that he will not make any claims to the Organizing Committee related to the fact that the materials are in social networks and on the website of the Festival.
